Thoughts on community, social media and the challenges facing our world
What if the entire world understood the POWER of community?
What if we, as a global community, organized ourselves and focused on the real problems facing us? Economy, ecology, civil rights, education reform… What if we took some of that energy and focus that we give up to celebrity flub-ups, sit-comedies and other media chatter (hey, I’m not innocent here) and instead, we put it to work in exactly the right way? What if half of us gave up an hour of television a of couple nights each week and instead furthered an important cause with our talents? How good would it feel to build something of positive consequence? What if we had an organized system by which we all looked out for our collective needs by focusing our specific abilities, skills and knowledge on the current projects in our cause/passion, region or sphere of influence? How could we structure such a volunteer-based social media platform? Does a platform like this already exist? How much more could we achieve if we focused our power in exactly the right ways? The possibilities are facinating. How do YOU think this could actually work? Would any of you volunteer your time to creating such a project? Persist, Joshua Guffey
